Sweden’s bid to join NATO is finally complete after Hungary finally approved their membership this week.Sweden is now expected to commit 2% of their GDP towards defence spending and help directly/indirectly fund the organization.
NATO members are supposed to adhere to these commitments to show their “willingness” and “readiness” to integrate into the Alliance. Sweden’s estimated GDP in 2023 was $577bn.
This comes as the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its third year, the invasion and subsequent war has created a great deal of volatility in markets and uncertainty though some of this uncertainty has subsided as the conflict has become seemingly perpetual.
